Hellooooooooo! I realized that I’m behind on my blogging. I have now finished two books and have not shared anything about either of them. I have found a little more consistency in my life now that I have an 8-5 job and find it easier to make time for reading, which I’m very happy about. This Side of Paradise was a little bit more of a slow read compared to what I’m used to but I still enjoyed it and very glad I made time for it. It was a half birthday gift from a sweet friend of mine and will happily lend it out to anyone interested in it.
For this book I decided to do something a little different and just share some of my favorite quotes as opposed to attempting to dissect it. Happy reading!
“With people like us our home is where we are not.” pg. 27
“’I’ll never be a poet,’ said Amory as he finished. “I’m not enough of a sensualist really; there are only a few obvious things that I notice as primarily beautiful: women, spring evenings, music at night, the sea; I don’t catch the subtle things like, ‘silver-snarling trumpets.’ I may turn out an intellectual, but I’ll never write anything but mediocre poetry.” pg. 84
“She is one of those girls who need never make the slightest effort to make men fall in love with them. Two types of men seldom do: dull men are usually afraid of her cleverness and intellectual men are usually afraid of her beauty. All others are hers by natural prerogative.” pg. 170
“….the idea that men can stand anything if they get used to it…” pg. 211
