Water for Elephants (Sara Gruen)

I will be entirely honest here, I picked up this book simply because I wanted to see the movie because I’m a huge Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon fan. However, I decided I would put more of an effort into reading a book if there is one before seeing the movie. Now that I’ve finished, what I should do is watch the movie and write up a comparison but I’m impatient so maybe next time. 

            This book was a really pleasant read! It flips back and forth between the present day of the main character’s life, Jacob Jankowski, and his retelling of working for the circus in his much younger years. I appreciate the way Gruen told this story in that way because it kept me on my toes. I didn’t know much about the plot going into it so I was surprised to find out that this book is a love story. I’m not a huge fan of romance and while I wouldn’t put this book in that category, it was definitely focused largely on Jacob’s love interest. 

            What I really enjoyed about this read, is the amount of people that recommended it to me. It was always suggested as a favorite too, not simply as a recommendation. It for sure did not disappoint! 

Seré completamente honesta, tomé este libro simplemente porque quería ver la película porque soy una fanática de Robert Pattinson y Reese Witherspoon. sin embargo, decidí que haría un esfuerzo para leer un libro si hay uno antes de ver la película. Ahora que he terminado, lo que debo hacer es ver la película y escribir una comparación, pero estoy impaciente, así que tal vez la próxima vez.

¡Este libro fue una lectura realmente agradable! Se mueve de un lado a otro entre el día actual de la vida del personaje principal, Jacob Jankowski, y su recuento de trabajar para el circo en sus años más jóvenes. Aprecio la forma en que Gruen contó esta historia de esa manera porque me mantuvo alerta. No sabía mucho sobre la trama que entraba, así que me sorprendió descubrir que este libro es una historia de amor. No soy una gran fanática de los libros de romance y, aunque no pondría este libro en esa categoría, definitivamente se centró en gran medida en el interés amoroso de Jacob.

Lo que realmente disfruté de este libro es la cantidad de personas que me lo recomendaron. Siempre se sugirió como un favorito, no simplemente como una recomendación. ¡Seguro que no decepcionó!
