Roost

It’s definitely been awhile since I shared my thoughts on any coffee shop but in my defense I only think it’s fair to talk about them after I’ve had their coffee and gotten the chance to experience the environment. Since COVID has made a lot of indoor seating either not possible, or in my case, not preferred, I have not spent a lot of time experiencing new coffee shops properly. However, I recently visited Pullman and went back to the coffee shop that will forever hold my heart and realized I have never done a blog post on it! It’s definitely long overdue but here it goes!

Full disclosure, my love for Roost is incredibly bias because it pretty much soldified some college friendships and fueled me long enough to make it through undergrad. It’s located in Pullman, Washington which is a more rural, small, college town in eastern Washington. Pullman is home to Washington State University (GO COUGS) and anyone who went there can tell you just how cute Roost is. Aesthetically I’d say it‘s a subtle boho haven. They have art hung up for purchase by the very talented Meg Conley! I don‘t know her personally but my friends and I have purchased multiple pieces by her so I feel confident in saying I’m a big fan! I have spent hours at Roost for meetings, homework dates with my friends, or just getting some time to myself. I think the memories I created there are what make it such a special place but just how cute it is and how sweet the baristas always were, was definitely a plus. It’s the kind of place where baristas know your name and your order and you feel like they really care about you and want you there.

Aside from the good vibes, Roost has the BEST homemade pastries and sandwiches. I could spend hours there because I soooooo easily could eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. Their goodies are always fresh and ALWAYS a hit. They carry a range of sweet and savory foods so there’s always something for everyone. I believe they usually have gluten or dairy free options too which is so considerate and equally yummy. My personal favorite treat to get would have to be their pesto croissant, cue the mouth watering. They also have fresh squeezed orange juice and I think I might have gotten that just as often as I ordered their coffee because it was that good! When I did order coffee and it wasn’t their cold brew, I usually went with an americano with steamed oat milk, if I was feeling bold, I’d ask for some vanilla in there and either way, it never disappointed. I also really enjoyed their seasonal drinks, over the summer their homemade limeades were the perfect quencher! I also fell in love with their mint cold brew, a mixture of flavors I initially questioned but was also incredibly blown away by. I’m not sure if they still make it, but before they carried oat milk, I‘d always order their homemade almond milk. I generally don‘t like almond milk but I really enjoyed the subtlety of Roost’s and if oat milk wasn’t basically my entire personality, I would’ve stuck with their almond milk for sure!

As you can probably tell, I could go on and on about Roost. To sum it up, I love it because they always have an abundant amount of very tasty food options, everyone who works their is so kind and positive, their coffee is creative and delicious, AND they hosted some of my favorite college memories! Please please please stop in if you’re every in or near Pullman!

Definitivamente ha pasado un tiempo desde que compartí mis pensamientos sobre cafeterías, pero en mi defensa, solo creo que es justo hablar de ellos después de haber tomado su café y tener la oportunidad de experimentar el ambiente. Dado que COVID ha hecho que muchos restaurantes cierran sus interior, no he pasado mucho tiempo experimentando adecuadamente las nuevas cafeterías. Sin embargo, recientemente visité Pullman y volví a la cafetería que siempre mantendrá en mi corazón y me di cuenta de que nunca había hecho una publicación de blog sobre ella. Definitivamente hace mucho tiempo, ¡pero aquí va!

Mi amor por Roost es increíblemente parcial porque yo hice muchas de mis amistades universitarias allí. Está ubicado en Pullman, Washington, que es una pequeña ciudad universitaria más rural en el este de Washington. Pullman es el hogar de la Universidad Estatal de Washington (GO COUGS) y cualquiera que haya ido allí puede decirte lo lindo que es Roost. Estéticamente, diría que es un refugio boho sutil. ¡Tienen obras de arte colgadas para que las compre de la talentosa Meg Conley! No la conozco personalmente, pero mis amigos y yo le hemos comprado varias piezas, así que me siento segura al decir que soy una gran admiradora. He pasado horas en Roost para reuniones, citas de tarea con mis amigos o simplemente para tener algo de tiempo para mí. Creo que los recuerdos que creé allí son los que lo hacen un lugar tan especial, pero lo lindo que es y lo dulces que siempre fueron los baristas, definitivamente fue una ventaja. Es el tipo de lugar donde los baristas conocen tu nombre y tu orden y sientes que realmente se preocupan por ti y te quieren allí.

Roost tiene los MEJORES pasteles y sándwiches caseros. Podría pasar horas allí porque tan fácilmente podría desayunar, almorzar y cenar allí. Sus golosinas son siempre frescas y SIEMPRE un éxito. Llevan una variedad de alimentos dulces y salados, por lo que siempre hay algo para todos. Creo que también suelen tener opciones sin gluten o sin lácteos, lo cual es muy considerado e igualmente delicioso. Mi golosina favorita tendría que ser su croissant de pesto. También tienen jugo de naranja hecho fresco y era tan bueno como su cafe. Cuando pedía café y no era su café frío, solía ir con un americano con leche de avena al vapor y a veces lo pedía con un poco de vainilla y de cualquier manera, nunca me decepcionó. También disfruté mucho de sus bebidas de temporada, ¡durante el verano sus limadas caseras fueron el refrescante perfecto! También me enamoré de su cold brew de menta, una mezcla de sabores que inicialmente cuestioné pero que también quedé increíblemente impresionada. No estoy segura de si todavía lo hacen, pero antes de que llevaran la leche de avena, siempre pedía su leche de almendras casera. Por lo general, no me gusta la leche de almendras, pero disfruté mucho de la sutileza de Roost y si la leche de avena no fuera básicamente toda mi personalidad, ¡me hubiera quedado con su leche de almendras!

En resumen, me encanta porque siempre tienen una gran cantidad de opciones de comida muy sabrosas, todos los que trabajan son muy amables y positivos, su café es creativo y delicioso, ¡Y albergaron algunos de mis recuerdos universitarios favoritos! ¡Por favor, pase por aquí si se encuentra en Pullman o cerca de allí!
